The person behind it.
I’m Anikó, a Canadian-Hungarian who moved here in 2017 and learned how Hungary works the slow way: the visa queues, the bank forms, the property contracts, the paperwork that can eat an afternoon. My husband and I made the move together from Canada, and my mother, father, sister and her husband have all since moved here too, so figuring the place out is a bit of a family project. I split my time between Budapest and a winehouse in the Balaton Highlands, and see both sides of life here.
HOW TO HUNGARY started as one book. It’s now a daily platform that reaches around 200,000 people a month: guides and long-form articles, videos five days a week, monthly live events in Budapest, and two newsletters, including an immigration edition produced with lawyers.
The work is independent: no ads, no affiliate links, nothing in the editorial for sale. The reporting starts with original Hungarian sources, the legislation and official documents themselves, not English-language summaries. You’ll know me by name, and apparently on the street. In a feed full of AI content, a real person who answers every message is the whole point.
