The Main Pathways to Hungarian Citizenship 2025

1. Citizenship by Descent

Parents are the cleanest path. If one or both of your parents were Hungarian citizens when you were born, you’re already a citizen – you just need to verify it with birth and marriage certificates. Grandparents, however, are different. Their status doesn’t make you an automatic citizen.
